William Bingham Meade

William Bingham Meade, Sr was born August 22, 1762 in Frederick Co. Va, and died February 11, 1841. He is buried at middle Honey Branch Cemetary., Gennies Creek. Little is know of his parents but, new evidence seems to indicate that his father may have been William Meade, son of William and Ellen ( Worrell) Mead. When joining the Revolutionary War, he listed Samuel Mead as his closest relative. Samuel's father , John died in 1754 so, we know they are not brothers. They may be first cousins. William Bingham Meade enlisted twice in the Revolutionary War . Once when he was about 14 years old and then again in Sept. 1778. He served until Jan. 1781, when he was injured. He served under Capt George Baker, Col. Howard and Col. Cleveland and took part in the Battle of Cowpens. He told a story of Captain General Morgan coming around to all the camps, the night before the battle and telling the men his plans for combat with the British. The battle of Cowpens was one of the defining battles of the Revolutionary war. He was shot in the head and stabbed and left for dead. They even took his shoes. His sister Elizabeth was said to have in her possession , a piece of his scull. He also fought in the War of 1812, at the age of 50, with the Bluebeard Company.
He married Mildred Esther Davis. She was born 1752 in Cablel Co. Va.
In about 1790, moved his family to the old Vancouver Settlement at the block house at the forks of the Sandy. In the early part of the century, about 1801, he moved with his family again to Marrowbone Creek in Logan Co, VA. It is now West Virginia.
